Aligning Financial Intermediary Investments with the Paris Agreement
Veranstalter
We invite you to join our satellite event to the Finance in Common Summit.
Development finance institutions (DFIs) play a key role in achieving the Paris Agreement’s goal of aligning financial flows with low-emission, climate-resilient development pathways. While a number of prominent DFIs have committed to align their operations with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, their focus in implementing and developing Paris alignment processes has so far been on direct lending.
In addition to their direct investments, significant portions of DFI commitments are channelled through financial intermediaries (FIs), which in turn support projects in their local economies. The end use of these funds is not always clear when the lending decision is made. To become fully Paris aligned, DFIs will also need to align these indirect investments.
In this webinar, Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and the World Resources Institute working as a consortium will present key preliminary findings from a forthcoming working paper proposing criteria to ensure investments through FIs are Paris aligned. The paper is part of the project “Alignment of Development Finance with the Paris Agreement” funded by BMZ to support MDBs and other development finance providers in translating the Paris Agreement to their operations.
The event will host representatives of multilateral development banks and of the IDFC to share their views on the working paper’s proposals and provide an update on their institutions efforts to align FI operations with the Paris Agreement.
