Opportunities for International Co-operation on India’s Just Energy Transition

Taxation, Re-regulation, Community-based Models

Preview policy brief

Just Transition is the buzzword of the hour. Two key principles should lie at its core: the need for social dialogue and the fair cost/benefit distribution that ‘leaves no one behind’. This policy brief outlines opportunities for international co-operation with India to facilitate a Just Energy Transition – the sustainable and equitable shift to low-carbon energy systems. It presents three approaches which warrant greater attention of policy-makers and experts on different levels of co-operation: international taxation, enhanced regulatory frameworks, and community-based models, to ensure inclusivity and fairness on the path towards the climate goals. Appropriate support can bolster India’s potential to become a leader in green and inclusive development models of the future.
