At the 70th UN General Assembly in New York on 25 September 2015, the international community of states adopted an important milestone that was hardly thought possible in view of the divided world: Global sustainable development goals - Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - for both developing and industrialised countries are an attempt to facilitate a development agenda up to 2030 that is geared towards upholding comprehensive human rights within planetary boundaries. However, it is also clear that the Sustainable Development Goals are the result of difficult consensus processes and, although their implementation has been announced, they are not legally binding. It is unclear what their status is in relation to free trade agreements such as the TTIP trade agreement being negotiated in parallel between the EU and the USA. - Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
- Strengthen means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development
