COP29 Debrief

Preview

At the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Baku, the global community agreed on a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance. This target amounts to at least USD 300 billion per year, to be fully met by 2035 at the latest. However, the amount agreed falls short of the real needs of vulnerable countries. What else was decided? What were the breakthroughs? And which decisions are rather disappointing?

The Germanwatch debrief reviews the conference and provides a detailed analysis of the negotiations on climate finance, the new nationally determined contributions (NDCs), mitigation and just transition, adaptation, loss and damage, and food systems.
