Strong stance against the influence of Big Tech

Open letter to the European Commission

Together with 40 civil society organisations, trade unions and businesses across Europe and the US, Germanwatch urged the European Commission to resist political pressure from Big Tech companies and prioritise the decisive enforcement of Europe’s digital laws.

With Donald Trump being in office, the pressure on the EU to weaken the rules against big tech companies is growing. These companies are using their influence and connections to the Trump administration to undermine European digital laws. A broad alliance is calling on EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and her colleagues, Competition Commissioner Teresa Ribera and Digital Commissioner Henna Virkkunen, to take decisive action. The Digital Services Act, Digital Markets Act, and EU antitrust rules are crucial for protecting our democracy and our economy. In the current situation, the EU must refuse to be intimidated by the lobby pressure of Big Tech.
