Terms of Reference: Consultancy on Revising the Climate Risk Index Methodology

GW

The Climate Risk Index (CRI) is a pivotal tool designed to assess and compare the risk of countries being impacted by climate change events, particularly extreme weather events. The CRI is one of the longest run climate impact related indices with annual editions. It helps to raise awareness of growing climate related loss events worldwide, inciting necessary climate policy discussions on climate change adaptation, disaster preparedness, risk reduction and addressing loss and damage. The current index methodology focuses on ‘exposure’ and ‘hazard’ as key variables of risks. In order to create an even more precise risk index, the scope of the index is planned to be expanded to also include the ‘vulnerability’ variable (based on the IPCC definition of risk). With the aim of launching an updated CRI, Germanwatch seeks a consultant to support the methodolgy revision of the index.
