How to finally end deforestation in the EU's supply chains?

The European Union’s high demand for livestock feed and soy still causes deforestation and nature degradation of large areas in their countries of origin. International campaigns against deforestation in recent years have focused on rainforests as the Amazon rainforest, where large quantities of agricultural commodities are produced for the EU. The production of livestock feed and beef for Europe have also critically decimated and threatened other critical biomes as the tropical dry forests of the Gran Chaco region or savannas like the Brazilian Cerrado. This webinar addresses actions required to end EU-driven deforestation and ecosystem degradation in South American countries.

On 14 October, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (CET) Alejandro Brown, president of Fundación Proyungas from the Gran Chaco, researchers Laura Kehoe (University of Oxford) and Alfredo Romero Muñoz (HU Berlin) as well as policy advisor Barbara Hermann (Climate Focus) will highlight the impacts of deforestation on agricultural exports and discuss with Hugo Schally of the European Commission and Annette Schmidt-Räntsch of the German Ministry of Environment EU policy approaches on how to avoid deforestation in supply chains for the EU. The webinar will be held in English and Spanish with simultaneous translation.
