Poster-Serie: High Five For Our Climate!

Emissions Trading

"Prices Should Tell the Ecological Truth"
Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker

The EU implemented a Cap and Trade System as its central climate instrument. Such an Emissions Trading System sets a clear CO2 price signal for industry - if well implemented. Barack Obama has announced to introduce a Cap and Trade System in the US. But parts of industry in the EU and the US fight for many loopholes in the system which would undermine its efficiency.

Coal Moratorium

No New Coal Power Plants without CCS

Coal is the most important contributer to greenhouse gas emissions. New coal power plants destroy the climate - as long as safe carbon capture and storage (CCS) is not a functional alternative.

International Rainforest Fund

Saving Biodiversity And Climate

Conservation of the tropical rainforest is not only a key factor for climate but also for biodiversity protection and the natural resources of indigenous people. An international rain forest fund is the best option to finance necessary measures.

SuperSmart Grid

100 Percent Renewable Electricity in the EU before 2050

For 100 percent renewable electricity we need a combination of two strategies. First: Massive increase of decentralised renewable energy combined with a smart grid. Second: Import of solar thermal, wind and biomass electricity from North Africa, North and East Europe via a Super Grid.

Top Runner Program

The Most Efficient sets the Standard

Dynamic energy efficiency standards are a powerful tool for the rapid increase of energy efficiency. This shows the top runner programme in Japan, where the most efficient product sets the standard for all other products of its class. Other producers have to follow. This leads to a competition determined by energy efficiency.
