Al Gore and the Climate Reality Project to train new climate activists in Berlin

Climate Reality Leadership Corps activist training in Berlin, Germany from June 26-28
Al Gore, The Climate Reality Project

Applications are now open for the three-day training, where former US Vice President and Climate Reality Founder and Chairman Al Gore will train people from around the world to become Climate Reality Leaders and take action to address the climate crisis. This will be the first such training in Europe since 2013. The training offers the chance to learn directly from Al Gore and a lineup of renowned climate scientists and communicators on how to inspire action and lead their communities in fighting for a sustainable future powered by clean energy.

The training’s wide-ranging sessions will explore how participants can raise public awareness of the climate crisis, build support for the practical solutions in our hands today, and pressure government leaders to act. Participants will also learn how to give the presentation made famous by the Oscar-winning film An Inconvenient Truth and seen in the 2017 follow-up film An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power.

The training comes to Berlin at a time when Germany and the European Union are feeling the effects of the climate crisis. Europeans have already experienced deadly heat waves, dangerous flooding, and rapidly decreasing snowpack exacerbated by the climate crisis. Without concerted action by government leaders, these impacts are likely to only worsen in the coming years. Germany is in the process of implementing an energy transition strategy to help move the country away from coal. Climate action policies like these can influence other countries in Central and Eastern Europe to reexamine their own. The challenges for Germany and Europe as a whole will be accelerating that transition, phasing out coal production, meeting the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement, and ensuring that this movement to clean energy is a just and fair one for the region’s many fossil fuel workers.

AT THE BERLIN TRAINING, PARTICIPANTS WILL:

  • Gain an understanding of the road ahead for the climate movement.
  • Learn to become an effective activist and leader equipped with essential skills for communicating climate science, public
  • speaking, organizing, and media engagement.
  • Hear from local and regional experts on strategies for implementing practical clean energy and sustainability solutions.
  • Meet in facilitated small-group sessions to connect with Climate Reality and our global network of activists.

Following the conclusion of the training, attendees become Climate Reality Leaders, joining a network of over 14,000 activists in more than 140 countries around the world.

APPLY TODAY TO JOIN US AT THE BERLIN TRAINING FROM JUNE 26-28, 2018!

THE APPLICATION CLOSE DATE IS MAY 22, 2018.

Germanwatch is happy to support Al Gore's crucial Berlin training through strategic consulting. Christoph Bals, Political Director of Germanwatch, is planning to join the training's kick-off panel discussion. In our view, this training is a great opportunity for people who want to become more active or more professional in the fight for reaching the Paris Agreement climate goals.
